More Harry Potter Trivia

Some amusing quotes from the first four books.
Do you know which book they are from?

1. "'They're... they're really... well, thanks, Dobby,' said Harry, and he pulled them on, causing Dobby's eyes to leak with happiness again."

2. "'Now -- be warned! It is my job to arm you against the foulest creatures known to wizardkind! You may find yourselves facing your worst fears in this room. Know only that no harm can befall you whilst I am here. All I ask is that you remain calm.'"

3. "'Well... when we were in our first year, Harry -- young, carefree, and innocent --' Harry snorted. He doubted whether Fred and George had ever been innocent. '-- well, more innocent than we are now -- we got into a spot of bother with Filch.'"

4. "'Certainly I knew, Minerva,' she said quietly. 'But one does not parade the fact that one is All-Knowing. I frequently act as though I am not possessed of the Inner Eye, so as not to make others nervous.' 'That explains a great deal,' said Professor McGonagall tartly."

5. "'I've been promoted,' Percy said before Harry could even ask, and from his tone, he might have been announcing his election as supreme ruler of the universe."

Be sure to decide your answers (unless you want to cheat) before you look at the comments.
Happy reading!

Yes.

Do you want me to post them? I don't want to ruin the game for anyone else.

btw - #2 and 3 are the same quote

Ah, whoops, I'll change that. Give me a minute to find another one, then go ahead and post your answers. I'll put a disclaimer at the bottom to not look at comments until your ready to answer.

Okay! Here goes:

1) Book 4, Christmas morning
2) Book 2, first DADA class with Lockhart
3) Book 3, when the twins give Harry the Map
4) Book 3, Christmas dinner, discussing Lupin
5) Book 4, Yule Ball

I love these, Lula!! It's like rereading the books in my mind without having to take the time to do it. :D

Here's a question for you: What does the inscription over the Mirror of Erised say (when read correctly)?

Oh! I know this one! I just read the book. "I show not your face but your heart's desire."

I got #2, #3 and #4. #1 and #5 stumped me.

If I can ever get the Shack done for book club I'll be starting HP. I only knew a couple of these, before I looked at the answers! I thought Prof. Lupin said number 2, and number 5, I knew was book 4 but I had no idea when he said it.

Good memory Amanda!

Does it count as memory when you've read the books so many times they've been branded into your brain?

The thing I love about Rowling is the way it's so easy to hear her characters speak. They each have such distinctive voices and speech patterns. Her writing may not be the best, but she leaves a strong impression when it comes to characters, which is fantastic. Every character sounds different to me (and no, they don't have british accents, sorry, I'm american, I imagine in American), but so strongly I can always tell who's speaking. I think that's why I remember these as well as I do.

See, I'm no good at naming the books but I knew exactly who had said them and in what situation...except #1 and #5...which is almost half of them. Nevermind! ;-)

Oh and good point about the voices of the characters Amanda (it feels weird to be "talking" to you when I don't know you). I totally agree with you and had never realized that before.

Hi Carrie! I don't mind talking, even if we've never met. ;)

there were two things that made me realize how distinctive the voices were. The first was when I got a line in my head, someone screaming, "This is bizarre!" It sounded like Ron, I could hear each word screamed, long and drawn out, and I was sure it was from one of the movies. I kept trying to think where in the world he would have said that, but couldn't figure it out. Then I was rereading the books and realized it was from a scene in book 5 (the movie wasn't out yet) and it was just so real to me that it was like I'd seen a movie.

The second was when I read book 7 to my husband when it first came out. He hadn't obsessed over the HP books like I had. He'd read them once, after #6 came out, and never touched them again. I read 7 immediately on getting my copy, and when I was done, Jason and I read it aloud to each other. I got to the part in book 7 where Harry is rescued from the freezing lake. He's coughing and hear's someone say, "Are you mental?" I can't remember if the words are spaced with periods between them or if that's just the way I read it (that's what Ron sounds like to me), but as soon as I read it, Jason shouted, "All right, Ron!" I hadn't said who the dialog came from, but he knew immediately from the words and the tone that I read it in that it was Ron.

Okay, I've gone on too long now, sorry 'bout that.
